Learner's Permit & Driver Ed

Amherst Central High School now offers Learner's Permit Testing at our school for our students!

Students may now take their driver’s permit test online at Amherst Central High School through the NYS DMV certified program.  This opportunity is offered free of charge to students who are within two months of their 16th birthday and are enrolled and in good standing at ACHS.  All training materials and forms are provided free of charge by the DMV and are available in the Main Office or online on the DMV website.  The test is offered in English and Spanish and the results are immediate.  Students who do not pass can retake the test as many times as necessary to pass.  After passing the online exam, the students who are at least 16 years of age will then be able to take the receipt and completed forms to their local DMV to get their permit processed.  The DMV fees are still required and must be paid in order obtain your permit.

Students must bring proof of identification and their chromebooks on the day of their test.  The only acceptable forms of identification are:

  • School photo ID (last year’s is acceptable)
  • NYSDMV issued document

Tests are given in the Main Office by appointment only and are administered during a student’s free time/study hall.  The test should take less than one period to complete.
