Curriculum Handbook
Dear Students and Parents:
The Curriculum Handbook is a very important tool in our academic planning process. It is intended to assist students and families as they make decisions regarding their academic direction including course selections. Equally important, this guide is the primary resource which clearly outlines our academic and curricular policies. I encourage you to read this document thoroughly and use it as a road map for a successful journey through our high school program.
Thoughtful planning is critical. In addition to the information provided in the handbook, your counselor in our Student Services Department will be of great service and assistance in selecting and finalizing course decisions.
Throughout the planning process, please keep in mind that the high school offers a comprehensive and demanding array of courses designed to meet various academic abilities. Please strongly consider teacher and counselor recommendations with regard to level placements. Additionally, it is important to take some time to reflect on your own talents, interests, and abilities in order to take full advantage of the opportunities here at Amherst.
To make this document more “user-friendly,” the following information may be helpful:
- Use the links in the Table of Contents to navigate through various areas of the handbook.
- The first major section of the Handbook describes graduation requirements, issues related to grading, and various instructional policies.
- The second section outlines services provided to students.
- The last section lists course offerings and descriptions.
Ultimately, our goal is to provide each student with the opportunity to be appropriately challenged and meet with academic and social success. Should you have further questions, please do not hesitate to contact me.
Sincerely,
Gregory K. Pigeon, Principal
